  3. an ancient pastoral and martial tribe with several subgroups (also pronounced as “āhīra”) found in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab; in brahminical codes, the offspring(s) of a brāhmaņa father and an ambaşţha mother (M. Sańhitā).
