- the pilgrimage centre near the city of Kanpur, in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, at present called Bithoor, which has been referred to as Brahmāvarta in the purāņas, and is described as being the center of the (universe) where Brahmā had commenced the creation of the universe and of humankind (M. Samhitā).
