  1. row or arrangement of lights; display of lights or lamps; decoration with light
  2. one of the major pan-Indian festivals, held at autumn, which is marked by creative and artistic display of lamps both in private houses as well as in the public spaces, and by the lighting of a great variety of firecrackers, and is looked upon as the festival of light, splendour, auspiciousness, prosperity and fortune.
