Śamādiṣatka literally means ‘the group of six disciplines’ starting with śama’.

This is the third of the four spiritual disciplines listed under sādhanācatuṣṭaya. It consists of the following six steps:

  1. Śama - tranquility
  2. Dama - self-control
  3. Uparati - cessation of external sense-organs from the pursuit of sense-objects
  4. Titikṣā - forbearance
  5. Śraddhā - faith
  6. Samādhāna - concentration
