Hemakuṭa (‘mass of gold’)
This earth comprises seven dvlpas or islands. Each island has seven distinguishing mountains called ‘Kulaparvatas’.
Hemakuṭa is one of the seven Kulaparvatas of Jambudvīpa, the island where Bhāratavarṣa or India is situated. It is situated to the north of the Himālayas. On its two sides is situated the Lavana-samudra or the ocean of salt. Kubera’s capital city— Alakāpurī—rests on one of its peaks.
