Illīśaḥ is a type of fish.

Perspectives of Rishis[edit]

As per Rājavallabha and Rājanirghaṅṭa[edit]

They describe the characteristics of the fish as follows:

  1. It increases bile, phlegm and digestive fire.
  2. It is sweet and agreeable.

As per Bhāvaprakāśa[edit]

According to him:

  1. Illīśa is sweet, oily and bright.
  2. It increases the (digestive) fire, creates bile and phlegm.
  3. It is a light aphrodisiac which removes flatulence.
