jālandharabandha

Works on Haṭhayoga concentrate on various exercises known as āsanas and mudrās or bandhas by which the longevity, health and stamina of the body can be increased.

The jaiandharabandha is one such exercise wherein the throat has to be

contracted and the chin pressed firmly against the chest.

It is capable of destroying a number of diseases of the throat.

More details—many of which quite complicated—are given in the treatises like the Hathayogapradipikā, the Dhyāna-bindu Upanisad, the Yogaśikhā Upanisad and others. However the exercises have to be practised under the direct care of experts.
