Jagannātha Panḍita (A. D. 1590-1670)

Author of a well-known work on Sanskrit poetics, the Rasagañgādhara, Jagannātha Paṇḍita was the son of Perubhaṭṭa and Lakṣmī. He belonged to Andhra Pradesh but spent most of his life in North India.

He was the court pundit of Jehāṅgīr and Sāhjehān. It was probably the latter who gave him the honorific ‘paṇḍitarāja’ (‘the king of scholars’).

Some of his well-known works are: Visnulaharī, Gañgālaharī, Sudhālaharl, Amrtalahari and Laksmilahari.

Unfortunately, the Rasagañgādhara is an incomplete work.
