ksipta (‘thrown about’)
According to the Yogasutras of Patañjali (200 B. c.) the citta or the mind has five states. Kṣipta is the first state. In this state the mind is constantly thrown about (kṣip = to throw) from one sense-object to another. Hence no yoga or concentration is possible in this state.
