Pañcabāṇa literally means ‘one who wields five arrows’.

Manmatha, the god of love or lust, is said to discharge five kinds of flowers as arrows from his bow made of sugarcane stalk towards his victims to make them lovelorn. Hence it is named as Pañcabāṇa.[1][2]
