Svastisukta literally means ‘hymn of auspiciousness’.
Svastisukta of Ṛgveda[edit]
The five mantras of the Ṛgveda[1] together are known as the Svastisukta since each verse begins with the word ‘svasti’.[2] It is generally chanted at the time of consecrating the image of Viṣṇu by tying a strip of cloth[3] to its hand.
The three verses (13 to 15) are repeated to cure the sacrificer if he becomes ill. The last mantra i.e. the 15th can be repeated to overcome the obstacles and dangers while on tour.
