  2. a Prajāpati son of Brahmā and the founder of the Bhārgava clan or lineage of sages. He is considered to have been twice born – first from the skin of Brahmā and again form thye sacrificial fire of Varuņa. In the first birth he was the husband of Khyāti and fathered Lakşmī, Dhātā, Vidhātā nand Kavi, and in the second was the husband of Pulomā and Bhūtā by whom he fathered the 11 Rudras, Bhūtā, Cyavana, Śuci, Śukra, Sāvana and Vajraśīrşa. He was a member of Brahmā’s assembly, and his lineage is credited with bringing fire to the earth (Ŗg Veda); one of the celestial Saptarşi or the Seven Sages (Hari. Purāņa); a son of Arthapati and uncle of the poet Bāņa.
