Vīrāsana literally means ‘heroic posture’.

Significance of Vīrāsana

Works on Haṭhayoga like the Gheranda Samhitā and the Hathayoga-pradīpikā prescribe several āsanas or yogic postures that help in regaining and retaining good health like controlling the prāṇic energy. One such āsana is the vīrāsana.

Vīrāsana Posture

In the sitting posture, the left leg is to be folded under the right thigh. The right leg is also folded, keeping the foot on the left thigh.
