one of the mind-born sons of Brahmā who wasthe composer of some of the Vedic hymns, the husband of Anasuyā, the father of sages Dattātreya, Durvāsā and Candra or Soma; the name of one of the sages present as one of the stars in the Saptarşimandala (circle of seven seers), or the Ursa Major constellation in the first and the seventh (present) manvantaras, or time-cycles.
