Sthula

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

Sthula literally means "gross".

In common usage sthula means

  • Vaguely or broadly
  • Big or heavy - for example sthula kaya means fat body
  • Physical or gross

In metaphysics, out of the three levels of existence sthula refers to the gross, the other two being sukshma (subtle) and karana (causal).
