Sacred (e.g., the melodies of the Sāmaveda) and devotional music is also said to be conducive to accumulation of religious merit. This is a big contrast of most sacred traditions with Islam – except for the fringe Sūfīs, Muslims consider music a sin and claim that it takes one away from Bhagavān.

One who is accomplished in playing the vīṇā and is an expert in the 21 śrutis, jāti and tāla attains the path of mokṣa without much effort. Yājñavalkya Smṛti 3.115

The music expert who fails to attain mokṣa through yog nevertheless becomes a companion of Rudra and rejoices with him. Yājñavalkya Smṛti 3.116
