Puraścarana is the technical name given to a particular ceremonial mode of repeating the Gāyatrīmantra in order to secure certain special fruits or results. The usual steps involved in it are:

  • Daily rituals like the Sandhyā-vandana
  • Worship of the goddess Gāyatrī
  • Japa of Gāyatrīmantra
  • Homa - fire ritual
  • Tarpaṇa - offering of water ceremonially
  • Feeding of the brāhmaṇas

However it should be undertaken under the guidance of experts.
