the group of deities who are each the guardians of one of the ten directions, namely: Kubera for the North, Yama for the South, Indra for the East, Varuna for the West, Īśāna for the Northeast, Agni for the Southeast, Vayu for the Northwest, Nirŗti for the Southwest, Vişņu for the Nadir and Brahma for the Zenith.
